The "punishing" price of wholesale electricity is making it uneconomical to make steel at certain times, an industry body has said. Director General of UK Steel Gareth Stace said wholesale prices had quadrupled to upwards of £1,000/MWh.  He said some companies were being forced to temporarily pause production when the price went "through the roof". Defence Secretary Ben Wallace officially cut steel for the UK’s newest warship, during a ceremony held at Rosyth dockyard. The event marks a significant milestone in the programme for the Royal Navy, Defence and shipbuilding in Scotland, with all five vessels to be built by Babcock on the Firth of the Forth and an average production cost of £250 million per vessel. GE Renewable Energy plans to use the world’s largest 3D printer of its type to produce moulds for its Haliade-X offshore wind turbines, shaving months off production times for the giant components and enabling greener local manufacturing. Rolls-Royce announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell 100% of ITP Aero to Bain Capital Private Equity, which is leading a consortium of investors, for approximately €1.7 billion.
