GE Renewable Energy has received the official planning approval from local authorities for its manufacturing plant in Teesside, UK, where LM Wind Power will operate the facility which will be dedicated to the production of its 107-metre-long blades for GE’s Haliade-X offshore wind turbines. The construction of the blade manufacturing plant is planned to begin later this year, after all contractual documents are finalised. Jet2 has struck an agreement with Airbus to purchase 36 new Airbus A321 neo aircraft, and has also agreed flexibility to extend this order up to 60 aircraft. The firm ordered aircraft deliveries stretch over five years until 2028, and at current prices represent a value of about $4.9bn/£3.6bn, with a total transaction value for up to 60 aircraft of roughly $8.1bn/£5.9bn. Thousands of UK homes could soon be warmed using heat generated from electricity grid transformers, which would have otherwise gone to waste. National Grid has forged a partnership with SSE’s Energy Solutions arm to explore how to capture the heat generated by the transformers and redirect it into district heating networks. The Airbus wing-making plant at Broughton has received a boost following Delta Air Lines’ decision to order an extra 30 A3210 aircraft.  The plant, near Chester, employs around 4,500 staff making wings for all the group’s commercial airline clients. UK car production fell sharply last month, marking the worst July performance for the industry since 1956, a trade group has said.  The global microchip shortage, staff being affected by the so-called pingdemic, and shutdowns meant just 53,438 cars were built in the month.
