BAE Systems has been awarded a £1.3bn order to support the production of 38 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft for the German Air Force. After numerous companies have already filed for insolvency, the German supplier Pressmetall is also affected. Presumably before Christmas, all 504 employees of the Franconian automotive supplier Pressmetall will receive their notice. The scoping report has been published for an onshore wind farm capable of powering a city the size of Dundee. Bodinglee in South Lanarkshire would have 60 ultra-efficient turbines. Its 300MW generating capacity would make the wind farm the UK’s third-largest by electricity generated. Banks Renewables has submitted the scoping report to South Lanarkshire Council. Input buying volumes in the manufacturing sector have reached their highest levels since March 2019 in the run-up to the end of the Brexit transition period, according to the latest PMI. November saw rising levels of input purchasing and stockpiling, while export business rose as EU-based clients brought forward orders ahead of the 31 December deadline.  The total value of claims for tax relief under the UK’s Patent Box regime has increased, but only slightly, according to latest data sets released by HMRC. Anglo American’s Crop Nutrients business has announced the creation of 200 new jobs at its Woodsmith Mine near Whitby. The jobs will be made available over the coming months as the company begins to sink the main mineshafts to the polyhalite ore body, over a mile beneath the surface. Polyhalite is a form of potash containing potassium, sulphur, magnesium and calcium. The product will be used by farmers to help improve crop yields.
