Since 1959, E6’s focus has been on engineering and optimising the diamond synthesis process to unlock innovative, diamond-enabled applications, including ultra-precision machining, drilling, thermal also produces synthetic diamond, CBN and PCBN products through a process of high pressure and temperature (HPHT). It also develops tungsten carbide solutions using high temperature sintering. These materials are used in cutting and grinding applications in industries ranging from automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics, to mining and construction.

The Element Six business has two parts:

1. Technologies, which is owned wholly by the De Beers Group. The Technologies division takes the extreme properties of synthetic diamond and further refines them using chemical vapour deposition (CVD) to open up new possibilities in optics, acoustics, power transmission, water treatment, thermal management, sensors and quantum.
2. Abrasives, which is 60% owned by the De Beers Group and 40% owned by Umicore, a major global materials group. Abrasives encompass Oil and Gas, Advanced Materials, and Hard Materials. This part of the business also produces synthetic diamond, CBN and PCBN products through a process of high pressure and temperature (HPHT). It also develops tungsten carbide solutions using high temperature sintering.
